Downtown Ambassadors Program
"Litter is a blemish on the landscape. It drags down a community and is dismally contagious…"
Ohio Department of Natural Resources
The Downtown Amabssadors will become a familiar sight on the streets of downtown Canton this summer.
Beginning June 12 and continuing throughout the summer, the five-member team of Timken High School students will work to keep the Central Business District clean by sweeping and removing gum from sidewalks, picking up litter and maintaining planters.
The Downtown Amabassadors are an innovative street cleaning and summer youth program, which provides economic benefit to downtown Canton by restoring a clean and safe environment in which to live, work and visit. It also creates social benefits for the youth participating in the program including providing a unique, alternative employment opportunity, developing social skills and gaining self-esteem and providing a distraction from undesirable activities.
